{"id":65,"date":"2020-05-18T09:57:56","date_gmt":"2020-05-18T09:57:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/phoenix-payroll.com\/kb\/?p=65"},"modified":"2021-04-29T07:35:06","modified_gmt":"2021-04-29T07:35:06","slug":"payroll-manual-getting-started","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/phoenix-payroll.com\/kb\/payroll-manual-getting-started\/","title":{"rendered":"Getting Started"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Installing Phoenix Payroll<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on your company\u2019s requirement or preference, Phoenix Payroll may be installed either as a standalone program on a regular or independent workstation (see <strong>Stand-Alone Installation<\/strong> instructions below), or on a workstation that belongs to your Local Area Network (LAN) or Wide Area Network (WAN) (see <strong>Client Installation<\/strong> and <strong>Network Server Installation<\/strong> below). As a guide to assist you determine what type of installation you require, try to answer the following questions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Are your office computers interconnected in LAN or WAN?<\/li><li>Will more than one person need simultaneous access to any of the payroll features (i.e. employee 201 file records, employee loans\/allowances information, employee time and attendance, etc.)?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Note for Windows Vista users<\/u><\/strong>:&nbsp; The program directory (\u201cC:\\Program Files\\Phoenix\\ Payroll\u201d) and the corresponding data directory (\u201cC:\\Program Files\\Phoenix\\Payroll\u201d) must be configured for read-write access for the current user for Phoenix Payroll to function properly under Windows Vista.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Minimum Hardware Requirements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Phoenix Payroll requires that your PC and Operating System meets the following minimum requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Client Workstations:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Pentium IV, 1GHz or higher, 1GB RAM, 60GB Hard Disk, Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)&nbsp;<\/li><li>Windows XP or later<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Web Server:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Intel Core i5, 1.8GHz or higher, 4GB RAM, 60GB Hard Disk, Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)&nbsp;<\/li><li>Apache 2.4 (IIS or Equivalent), PHP 5.4, MySQL 5.5<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Database Server:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Intel Core i5, 1.8GHz or higher, 4GB RAM, 60GB Hard Disk, Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)<\/li><li>Apache 2.4 (IIS or Equivalent), PHP 5.4, MySQL 5.5<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>(Web Server and Database Server can be installed and operated on a single machine with minimal performance degradation)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stand-Alone Installation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Installing Phoenix Payroll in Stand-Alone mode means that it will be installed only on one machine within your company.&nbsp; This means that both database and the program itself will reside on your machine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To install Phoenix Payroll, follow the following simple steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 1<\/strong>: Double click on the file <strong>Phoenix Installer.exe<\/strong>. Install the database server by running <strong>Phoenix Installer.exe<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Client users are able to ping the database server (or workstation to be used as database server).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Client Installation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The following section is recommended for System Administrators only.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please be sure that the \u201cNetwork Server Installation\u201d section above has been completed prior to installing Phoenix Payroll on a Client machine.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To install Phoenix Payroll as a client machine, simply follow the following steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 1<\/strong>:&nbsp; Install the <strong>Phoenix Installer.exe <\/strong>and select <strong>Client <\/strong>in <strong>Select Installation Type Window<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 2<\/strong>:&nbsp; Configure the Database Connection Settings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"275\" height=\"253\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/phoenix-payroll.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/image-1.png?resize=275%2C253&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-78\"\/><figcaption>a)  Go to Start-&gt;All Programs-&gt; Phoenix Payroll and run Database Connection String, setting the <strong>Hostname<\/strong> parameter to the server name.&nbsp; Leave all other settings as is.<br><br>b)  After setting the correct parameters click <strong>Save &amp; Close<\/strong> to apply connection settings. Running Phoenix Payroll for the First Time<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">License Registration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When running Phoenix Payroll for the first time (or when running a fresh installation on a new machine), you will be brought to the Phoenix Payroll Registration page.&nbsp; This page asks you to supply your Company Name and Serial Number:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"540\" height=\"248\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/phoenix-payroll.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/image-2.png?resize=540%2C248&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-79\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/phoenix-payroll.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/image-2.png?w=540&amp;ssl=1 540w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/phoenix-payroll.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/image-2.png?resize=300%2C138&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Company Name field in this page are case sensitive.\u00a0 Be sure to input the correct company name here as you will not be able to change it later on.\u00a0 If you are running a licensed copy, you will have to register the Company Name and Product Key (be sure to copy both Company Name and Product Key exactly as they appear) with iSoftware Support (call +63 2 8742006 or email <a href=\"mailto:support@phoenix-payroll.com\">support@phoenix-payroll.com.com<\/a> or skype account <strong>support@phoenix-payroll.com<\/strong>) in order to get your Serial Number for this machine.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Introductory Edition users (or companies with 1 to 10 employees) may proceed without the Serial Number by simply clicking the <strong>OK<\/strong> button.&nbsp; Be sure to input your company name, however at the Registration window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a>Initial Login<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The first time you run Phoenix Payroll, the system will be able to detect if this is your first time running the software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"455\" height=\"214\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/phoenix-payroll.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/image-3.png?resize=455%2C214&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-80\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/phoenix-payroll.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/image-3.png?w=455&amp;ssl=1 455w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/phoenix-payroll.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/image-3.png?resize=300%2C141&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 455px) 100vw, 455px\" \/><figcaption>This dialog explains that Phoenix Payroll has detected that you are running the software for the first time, and you are prompted to create an Administrator password:<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"336\" height=\"166\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/phoenix-payroll.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/image-4.png?resize=336%2C166&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-81\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/phoenix-payroll.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/image-4.png?w=336&amp;ssl=1 336w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/phoenix-payroll.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/image-4.png?resize=300%2C148&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 336px) 100vw, 336px\" \/><figcaption>It is important that you create a password that you will be able to remember since the Administrator account, by default has access privileges for the whole system.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a>Initial Configuration<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When running Phoenix Payroll for the first time and after creating an administrator password, you will then be brought to the <strong>System Settings<\/strong> form wherein you can input pertinent information about your company.&nbsp;&nbsp; This section may be skipped at this time; however, it is advised that you fill up the basic information needed.
